Where we work, and why each city gets its own page

Next Wave Options is an independent life and annuity agency serving Monterey County and the neighbouring communities in San Benito and Santa Cruz counties, in person or by video, in English or Spanish. We keep a page for each city rather than one page with a list of towns, because the questions genuinely differ: a produce worker in Salinas, a hotel employee in Monterey, a soldier's family near the Defense Language Institute and a CSU Monterey Bay staff member in Marina do not have the same employers, the same retirement plans or the same housing costs.

Two cities have full pages today: Salinas and Monterey. The others are listed with what we already cover for them and when their own pages arrive. We would rather publish two cities properly than thirteen thin ones.

Cities with their own pages

CityWho we mostly work with therePages
SalinasProduce and agriculture, Salinas Valley Health and Natividad, county and city employees, school districts and Hartnell CollegeLife insurance · 401(k) rollover
MontereyHospitality and tourism, Montage Health and Community Hospital, the Naval Postgraduate School and the Defense Language Institute, city and county staffLife insurance · 401(k) rollover

Every community we cover, and what is different about each

These are separate pages because these are separate places. A correctional officer in Soledad, a vineyard worker in Greenfield and a software engineer commuting from Gilroy do not have the same questions, and three of the communities below are not even in Monterey County, which changes the public retirement plans involved. We would rather write eleven honest pages than one page eleven times.

CommunityCountyWhat tends to be different there
SeasideMontereyCSU Monterey Bay, Monterey Peninsula Unified and a large military and veteran population on the old Fort Ord land
MarinaMontereyNew housing on returned base land, newer and larger mortgages, and retirement accounts scattered across several past employers
PrunedaleMontereyUnincorporated, rural parcels and commuters in three directions; a lot of self-employed trades with no employer plan
CastrovilleMontereySeasonal artichoke and row-crop work, final expense the usual first priority, and mixed-status households
SoledadMontereyTwo state prisons, so CalPERS safety service and the governmental 457(b) rules dominate the retirement conversation
GreenfieldMontereyThe highest Spanish-speaking share we serve, agriculture plus a growing south-valley wine industry
King CityMontereyThe south county hub: Mee Memorial Healthcare System, the school districts, and long distances to everything else
GonzalesMontereyA small city with large employers: Taylor Farms, Constellation Wines, Growers Express and the school district
WatsonvilleSanta CruzDifferent county, different public plans; Pajaro Valley Unified is one of the largest employers in the city
HollisterSan BenitoCounty seat, roughly 7,500 people commuting north to Silicon Valley, plus Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital
GilroySanta ClaraThree economies in one city: Bay Area commuters, Gilroy Unified as the largest employer, and agriculture

Salinas and Monterey have deeper coverage, with separate pages for life insurance and 401(k) rollovers in Salinas and the same two for Monterey, because that is where most of our clients are.

We do not keep a physical office in any of these communities. We work by video and phone and meet in person by appointment anywhere in Monterey County, and we say so on every page rather than publishing an address we do not sit in.

What is the same everywhere we work

  1. We are independent. Several carriers, compared side by side, with the comparison shown to you. The list is on our carriers page.
  2. The first conversation is free, by phone, video or in person, and carries no obligation.
  3. English or Spanish, for the conversation, the health questions, the written recommendation and the policy walkthrough.
  4. For clients 65 and over, California Insurance Code section 789.10 requires 24 hours' written notice before an in-home appointment. We send it every time.

What changes from city to city

Three things, mostly. Employers and plans: a 401(k) from a produce company, a 403(b) from a school district, a 457(b) from the county and a CalPERS or CalSTRS pension all behave differently, and which one you have depends on where you work. Housing costs: the mortgage balance is the largest line in most life insurance calculations, and the Peninsula and the Salinas Valley are different markets. Language and scheduling: a large share of our Salinas appointments are in Spanish and outside business hours, because that is when field and shift workers are free. Each city page says what applies there rather than repeating the same paragraphs.

Questions people ask about our service area

Yes, at your home or another place of your choosing by appointment anywhere in Monterey County, or by video and phone if that is easier. Evening appointments can be arranged for people who work days in the fields or on shifts.

Yes. Watsonville, Hollister and Gilroy are within our service area, and we can work with clients anywhere in California by video, since our licence is statewide.

Because a city page is worth reading only if it says something true about that city: the employers, the plans, the housing market and the questions people there actually ask. We are writing them one at a time rather than publishing the same page thirteen times with the name swapped.

No. Consultations are free wherever they happen. For clients 65 and over we send the written notice California requires at least 24 hours before an in-home appointment.

Yes: the conversation, the health questions, the written recommendation and the policy review. Carrier documents are usually issued in English, and we go through them with you line by line.

In Salinas, at the address in the sidebar and the footer, open Monday to Friday during the hours shown, with evening appointments by arrangement.

Ready to talk it through? No cost, no obligation, in English or Spanish.
